Professional Sinkhole Repair & Remediation in Jacksonville, Miami, Orlando, FL
Our sinkhole repair solutions let you sleep better
Sinkholes can cause costly damage to homes and buildings, reduce property value, and are a dangerous safety hazard.
Sinkholes are unexpected and often form as a result of unstable soil, a water main break, or a ruptured sewer pipe. No matter what the cause, sinkholes can damage your property and reduce its value. Sinkholes can also be extremely hazardous and even deadly.
Did you know Florida has more sinkholes than any other state in the U.S.? Since a large portion of Florida is made up of porous limestone and other carbonate rocks that store groundwater, sinkholes are a major concern for this region. Over time these rocks dissolve from the acid inside the water, creating voids that collapse when the dirt, clay, or sand on top becomes too heavy.
If you suspect that your property may be threatened by a potential sinkhole, contact the experts at Alpha Foundations today! We are the local experts in Florida & Georgia for sinkhole repair and foundation repair. We serve Jacksonville, Tallahassee, Orlando, and nearby. Give us a call and we will send out one of our skilled technicians as soon as possible.

What is a sinkhole?
Alpha Foundations provides safe and reliable sinkhole repair solutions for homes and commercial properties.
Sinkholes, also known as swallow holes or dolines, are depressions that range from shallow circular dips to large house-swallowing holes. They are usually caused by subsurface erosion in the limestone strata that lie underneath the soil. As the limestone dissolves, the soil sinks to fill the voids. Depending upon the depth and composition of the soil, sinkholes may occur suddenly or gradually over long periods.
They can be triggered by anything that adds weight to the soil, including construction, roadwork, vehicles, heavy rains, and flooding. If a sinkhole occurs under your foundation, pool, driveway, or walkway – even if it’s a relatively small one – it can create cosmetic, as well as structural and safety issues for your home or building.
Sinkhole zones in Florida
All of Florida contains carbonate rock, so sinkholes can form anywhere throughout the state. Although, some areas are at a higher risk than others, including Seminole and Lake counties. Here is a list of areas least to most vulnerable for sinkholes:
- Areas that have cohesive sediments interlayered with intermittent carbonate rock at 200 inches thick or more are the least at risk.
- Areas that are bare or thinly covered with limestone at 30 inches thick or less are the second-least at risk. This includes Miami-Dade County, Monroe County, and Broward County.
- Areas with incohesive and porous sand at 30 to 200 inches thick are the second most at risk. This includes Brevard County, Saint Lucie County, and Okeechobee County.
- Areas that consist of mostly clay-like sediments of low permeability with a thickness of 30 to 200 inches are the most at risk. This includes Seminole County and Lake County.
What to do when you suspect sinkhole activity
If a sizeable sinkhole forms on your property, make sure that your family gets to safety first. Next, mark the sinkhole area with tape and signage to warn others and evacuate if necessary. Notify your insurance company and the building department of your municipality. Then call Alpha Foundations to help you assess the damage.
Do not try to fill the hole yourself. Sinkholes are a direct route to the underground water supply below. By filling the hole with compost or trash, you may contaminate your water supply.
If the sinkhole activity is gradual, call us to help you get your foundation and slab stabilized before the damage becomes too expensive or irreversible. Alpha Foundations provides commercial and residential foundation repair, sinkhole repair, and concrete leveling and lifting services.
