Schedule Free Inspection

Do you have slow or clogged yard drains? If you have standing water in your yard or driveway as a result of clogged yard drains, we can help you to fix them! All you need to do is follow these very simple steps to get your system moving again!

How to Quickly Unclog Yard Drains

First and foremost, you should locate your drain grates and make sure they are clear. In order to drain your yard quickly during heavy rainfall, which is fairly common in Florida, your drainage system must first receive water.

Remove all debris from the top of the grate, whether it be leaves, plant growth, or kids’ toys. Next, look through the grate. If you can see visible debris within the space below, you should take that out as well. Remove the grate if you can and scoop out all debris gently.

Once you have done this, use a garden hose to flush out your drain system. Clogs can be caused by buildups of organic material such as leaves in your pipes. The pressure of water from your garden hose should be enough to shift these deposits. If you are lucky, your property will have one or more inspection portals for the drainage system. If you have these and know where they are watch one as you flush the system. If you can see water flowing, this is a good sign. If you can’t, however, there may be a more serious blockage.

If you are determined and you live near a hardware store, you can rent a drain snake or hydro-jet to shift stubborn blockages and clogs in your yard drainage system. If this doesn’t work, it is time to call a professional as your drainage system may be blocked by very hard debris, or invading tree roots. In these cases, it is best to have professional input because they can be hard to deal with without damaging the system as a whole.

Maintaining Your Yard Drainage System

When it comes to preventing clogs, there are few things quite as effective as a regular maintenance and cleaning schedule. If you get into the habit of regularly checking, clearing, and flushing your yard drainage systems, especially before storms, you will see a huge improvement in the amount of standing water in your yard.

However, if you continue to see recurring, serious clogs in your system nonetheless, there is a chance that your system is damaged or unsuitable for your property. For example, roots may be invading the pipes and blocking your drainage system.

However, it is also possible that your drainage system is simply too small for the volume of water it is being expected to take on. In this case, the only fix is a new drainage system that is suitable for your property. If you are worried that this might be the case, you should contact a professional, as they will be able to advise you as to which drainage systems will be best for you.
